We pulled over driving into St. David's yesterday to the screams of model power boats racing in the flatts near the entrance to St. David's and Swing Bridge. Under the shade of the roadside brush, several men tinkered with model boats built from kits, adding bite-sized parts and filling small tanks with nitros. Grey smoke shoots out from mufflers mounted atop the kit-built (but clearly customised models) as their makers wade out knee-high into the water to compete via radio control in a course demarcated with bleach-bottle buoys. It's every Sunday here at 'the track'—with some coming from as far as the west end—for racing as long as high tide permits.
