Saw-toothed shark bill

Over honey-sweetened tea and home-made banana bread in his lovely garden, Collwyn Bourne of the Bermuda Historical Society told me about a historically and visually fasinating object which he has decided to pass onto Bermuda Maritime Museum's collections. Minus only one tooth, it is a complete saw-toothed shark bill. Fascinating and startling in equal amounts, I considered it to be a creative fake replica at first glance. It is indeeed real and historic. As if the object itself, out of context, was not interesting enough, Collwyn shared the tale of his grandfather finding it lodged in a ship's hull after her return to Bermuda around 1900. Collwyn is currently writing up a more detailed account to add to the accession record.
