Spirit of Bermuda launch

On Sunday 13 August the Bermuda Sloop Foundation's 'Spirit of Bermuda' was officially launched in Rockport, Maine. The 83-foot sail-training vessel will soon arrive in Bermuda to commence its educational and community programmes. Aran McKittrick of BSF, who attended the launch, kindly forwarded on photos of, in Aran's words, the 'beautiful spectacle, indeed, something well worth feeling proud of', a couple of which are shown here. While 'Spirit of Bermuda' is the only Bermuda-based replica, Sean Pol O'Creachmhaoil pointed out that she is not the only Bermuda sloop (or schooner some would say) afloat. He wrote, 'there is also the replica of HMS Pickle, or the former 'Sting', bought by the navy as an advice vessel, and which carried the news of British victory and Nelson's death at Trafalger back to Britain. The Pickle replica seems to be currently used for precisely the same mission for which the "Spirit Of Bermuda" has been built. Wouldn't it be neat to bring these two sloops together? '. Neat indeed.
